FWMG Celebrates Earth Day 2024

April 22, 2024

“We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children” Native American Proverb

This quote hits differently for me after welcoming my twin sons into the world and our family.   Becoming a parent really made me face myself.  I had to (and continue to) develop my values system.  I have let go of a lot of things I once would have called “valuable” – the need to be right, the need to be on time to everything and on everyone else’s time table but my own and my family’s.  My family became what I value most, and my most valuable asset.  Providing for my sons for the past 5 years- not just physically, but emotionally- creating what I hope is a safe, nurturing environment for them has demanded an incredible amount of time and energy, and freely given.

My experience has made me appreciate how precious life is.  It’s beautiful and terrible.  It’s incredibly fragile and delicate, yet at the same time probably one of the most persistent, strongest forces in the universe.  The duality is awe inspiring.

As far as we know it, Earth is the only source of carbon-based life in the universe.  This Earth day I hope you do something to show that you value it.  Show gratefulness for the fact that it, and we, exist.  Here are some ideas:

  • Plant a tree
  • Take a shorter shower.  Conserve water.
  • Reuse a plastic grocery store bag
  • Recycle that tin can, instead of putting it in the trash.

Another thing you can do is to ask us about Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) investment portfolios.  These are investments that, in addition to their financial returns being considered, are viewed through an additional socioenvironmental lens.   Impact investing is a great way to align your beliefs and values with the allocation of your financial wealth.

In celebration of life,
